공정무역의 아동노동금지
세계 아동노동 반대의 날(6월 12일)을 맞이해 아동노동 근절을 위한 공정무역의 기준과 노력, 그 영향을 소개한다. 아동노동 근절을 위해 국제공정무역기구는 아동노동금지 기준 설정, 인증과 감사, 생산자 지원 서비스, 전문가와 함께 하는 맞춤 프로그램 등을 진행한다. 공정무역은 아동노동은 원천 금지하고 있으며 더 나아가 생산자 단체의 어린이와 청소년들의 복지와 발전을 위해서 교육과 특별 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 2015년도 모니터링 리포트에 따르면 공정무역 프리미엄(추가 장려금)의 27%가 교육의 목적으로 사용되고 있다. 아이들은 노동 대신 교육을 받고 공정무역 프리미엄을 통해 받는 장학금으로 대학과정까지 수료하는 등 다양한 사례가 있다.
Fairtrade prohibits child labour as defined by the International Labour Organization(ILO) minimum age and the worst forms of child labour conventions. Fairtrade’s comprehensive approach to addressing child labour involves interplay of Fairtrade Standards, certification and auditing, producer support services and targeted program. We work with Fairtrade producer communities to encourage them to establish a child inclusive community based monitoring and remediation system in partnership with child rights NGOs so that boys and girls in producer communities can enjoy increased well-being. According to recent data, 27% of the Premium was used for educational purposes. Many children and young people in producer communities could achieve degree with the Fairtrade Premium scholarships.

대한민국 제1호 공정무역 도시 ‘부천’ 인증식 개최
지난 6월 20일 대한민국 제1호 공정무역 도시가 탄생했다. 그동안 공정무역 운동을 꾸준히 추진해 온 부천시가 국제공정무역기구(한국사무소)의 인증조건을 모두 충족해 전국 최초로 공정무역도시 인증을 받게 된 것이다. 인증식은 인증서 전달과 현판 제막식, 공정무역타운 깃발 게양 순서로 진행됐으며 온두라스, 콜롬비아, 코스타리카, 페루, 인도네시아, 영국 대사관 및 유엔개발계획 서울정책센터 관계자, 의원들이 참여해 축하를 전했다. 부천시는 지난해 12월 ‘공정무역도시, 부천’의 비전을 선포하고 전통시장, 소상공인과 함께하는 독창적인 공정무역운동을 펼쳐왔으며 관내 식음료, 면화, 화장품 기업 등을 공정무역인증마크 취득을 통한 전 세계 12조 공정무역시장으로의 진입 지원을 밝히고 있다. 또한 시민정책토론회 시민 행사에서 공정무역 홍보부스 설치 등을 통해 공정무역을 알리기에 힘썼다. 부천시는 공정무역도시 인증에서 나아가 지속 가능한 공정무역도시가 되기 위한 노력을 기울일 것으로 밝혔다.
On 20 June 2017, Bucheon has become the first Fair Trade Town in Korea. Bucheon has been steadily promoting the Fair Trade and finally met all requirements to become a Fair Trade Town. The official ceremony took place with the participation of representatives from the Embassies of Honduras, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Indonesia, the British Embassy and the United Nations Development Program Seoul Policy Center. Bucheon declared its vision of 'Fair Trade City, Bucheon' in December 2016 and has been engaged in a Fair Trade movement with local communities, traditional markets and small businesses in unique way. In addition, Bucheon have been making efforts to promote Fair Trade through policy debates, promotional booth in various events. Bucheon will make further efforts to become a sustainable Fair Trade Town.

롯데호텔 서울이 선보이는 ‘디바인 초콜릿’
롯데호텔 서울 1층에 위치한 베이커리 델리카한스에서는 ‘안전성, 윤리성, 신뢰성’을 담보하는 공정무역인증초콜릿 ‘디바인 초콜릿’ 선물세트를 선보이고 있다. 디바인 초콜릿은 소농민들과의 공정하고 지속 가능한 거래, 생산자 역량 강화를 미션으로 하는 글로벌 공정무역초콜릿 브랜드로 가나 공정무역 코코아 생산자들이 지분 44%를 소유하고 있다. 외국인은 물론 증가하는 윤리적 소비자들을 고려할 때 호텔 내 이와 같은 공정무역인증제품 판매는 호텔의 글로벌 이미지 향상, UN의 지속가능한 개발목표(SDGs) 동참뿐만 아니라 국내 윤리적 소비 기회 제공의 역할까지 담당하게 된다.

Delica-Hans, located in first floor of Lotte Hotel, launches Divine Chocolate Gift Set. Divine Chocolate is a global fairtrade chocolate company based in the UK and has mission of fair and sustainable remuneration for small holder cocoa farmers in West Africa, as well as empowering them to take their future into their own hands. Kuapa Kokoo is a co-operative of over 80,000 cocoa farmers in Ghana, who own the largest share (44%) of Divine Chocolate. Considering increasing number of foreign visitors and ethical consumers, having Fairtrade certified products available within the Hotels becoming very essential. It could raise brand image, contribute to achievement of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as give opportunity of ethical purchase to guests.

영국 최초 공정무역인증커피 출시
영국 최초 공정무역인증커피, 세계적인 공정무역커피회사인 카페 다이렉트의 건강하고 맛 좋고 윤리적인 커피 8종이 출시됐다. 생산자들은 지속 가능한 재배 기법을 사용한 최상의 커피 열매들만을 손수 수확하고 그것을 카페 다이렉트가 직접 구매해 중간 마진을 줄이고 소비자에게 최상의 품질 커피를 제공한다. 카페 다이렉트는 공정무역 최저금액 지불, 장려금 지급 외에도 카페 다이렉트 이익의 30~50%는 생산자들에게 재투자 된다. 현재 국내에는 카페 다이렉트의 대표적인 마추피추 원두와 인스턴트 커피 3종, 네스프레소 호환 가능한 캡슐커피 4종이 출시됐다. 자세한 사항은 한국사무소 기업지원 웹사이트(b2b.fairtradekorea.org)에서 확인 가능하며, 갤러리아 백화점과 카페 다이렉트 신촌 1호점에서 구입 가능하다.
The UK’s first Fairtrade certified coffee and global Fairtrade coffee company –Cafédirect– have been launched eight different healthy, tasty and ethical coffee in Korea. Cafédirect’s producers harvest only the finest coffee beans using sustainable cultivation techniques, and Cafédirect purchases them directly to reduce cost and provide consumers with the highest quality coffee. Cafédirect reinvest at least a third of their profits with the producer communities besides minimum price and Premium which is set by Fairtrade.
